I have had/witnessed virtual or personal interactions with white males who claim that they are persecuted because of the fact that they are white males. This is a claim that is usually made whenever someone who is not of the dominant group (white men) has the audacity to express the fact that they have historically/contemporarily been oppressed by white men.
Here is the thing: WHITE MALE OPPRESSION DOES NOT EXIST. It does not exist on a macro-social or micro-social level . It does not exist on a macro-social level because "Asian, Black, Hispanic, lesbian females" do not possess the institutionalized power necessary to oppress white men. White men do possess that power. It doesn't really hold water on a micro-social level because it is not a lived reality of being a white male. Their experiences of oppression are usually in relation to being confronted with the reality of their white male privilege, but once they remove themselves from the experience e.g. leave the discussion or close their browser windows--the oppression is not there. Voila. Poof. THE END.
